After over 30 years of dedicated service to Flagstaff and the community of Northern Arizona, Northern Arizona Gastroenterology has made the decision to permanently close, effective December 26, 2024. The entire staff is grateful for the opportunity to serve
your medical needs during that time.
Dr. M. Angelo Trujillo will be retiring from office practice at the end of the year. He wishes to express his profound gratitude at being able to help so many people in this community over his 31 years in the area. Dr. Trujillo truly considers it to have been a
privilege to have cared for so many people throughout these past many years.
Dr. Rodney Engel will be staying in Flagstaff. He will transition to Flagstaff Surgical Associates in the Division of Gastroenterology. Melissa Hakes, FNP-C and Ashley (Peak) Mattix, FNP-C will also be moving to Flagstaff Surgical Associates in the Division of Gastroenterology. They will be starting to see new patients in the new year. Flagstaff Surgical Associates is located at 77 W. Forest Avenue, Suite 107. Patient Education
Gastroenterology is the study of the normal function and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts and liver. It involves a detailed understanding of the normal action (physiology) of the gastrointestinal organs including the movement of material through the stomach and intestine (motility), the digestion and absorption of nutrients into the body, removal of waste from the system, and the function of the liver as a digestive organ. It includes common and important conditions such as colon polyps and cancer, hepatitis, gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn), peptic ulcer disease, colitis, gallbladder and biliary tract disease, nutritional problems, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and pancreatitis. In essence, all normal activity and disease of the digestive organs is part of the study of Gastroenterology.
